Section 232 Tariffs Update | Steel & Aluminum
Effective March 12, all countries will now be subject to a minimum of 25% ad valorem tariffs on steel and aluminum imports (previously set at 10% ad valorem), as well as specified derivative products imported into the United States.
Key points to note:
This modifies existing Section 232 tariffs, enforcing a minimum of 25% duty on all steel and aluminum imports.
More derivative aluminum articles will be recommended within 90 days of the Executive Order.
Domestic steel and aluminum producers will have the ability to petition the Commerce Department to add articles to the list.
Commerce will make a decision within 60 days of the request whether the product will be added to the Annex.
Products processed in third countries from US-sourced steel and aluminum are exempt. Proper certification is required.
The Section 232 product exclusion process has ended as of February 11, 2025. Existing exclusions remain valid until expiration or full importation of the approved volume. General Approved Exclusions (GAE's) end March 12.
No duty drawbacks will be allowed.
Effective March 12, all steel and aluminum articles and derivative must enter under privileged foreign status unless eligible for domestic status.
US Customs and Border Protection will prioritize enforcement.
